Creating social media content for the autistic community
Social media managers need to start catering for the thriving autistic community or otherwise be left behind.
People with autism use social media in fun and creative ways. They build online communities, create online worlds, play games and more.
But social media often isn’t catered to the colours, sounds or wording that helps them have a better experience.
So here are few quick tips you can implement today to change this around.
1. Less background music
Harsh, loud background music can make content hard to consume. Take it off videos or reduce it to a low volume to help autistic people better understand and consume your videos.
2. Direct information
Autistic people don’t want you messing around with flowery information. Be direct and clear in your message. Use direct words and shorter sentences.
3. Bullet points in your Facebook ads
When listing services or offerings, make sure you put bullet points. This makes the information more clear and direct for autistic people.
